When the "thrills" of Hunan contortion meet the "charm" of traditional Chinese opera, 11 young talents from the Hunan Acrobatic Art Theatre delivered a stunning performance on the stage of Moscow State Circus in Russia. This post-2000s team, with an average age of just 15, won the Bronze Idol Award (Professional Jury Category)at the World Circus Art Festival "IDOL-2025" with their original group contortion actCharm of Chinese Opera.

As the first batch of college-level acrobatics majors co-trained by the Hunan Acrobatic Art Theatre and Hunan Vocational College of Art, they are the new generation of China’s acrobatic "ambassadors" going global. Embodying the skill and grace of Oriental acrobatics, they are striving for the "Golden Clown" Award—the highest honor in the acrobatic world.

"Look, this is our 'highlight moment'." Ma Huixing, 16, pulled up the cherished photo in her phone album—on the podium of Moscow State Circus, she and her teammates stood holding flowers and trophies, their young faces beaming with joy. Under the spotlight, they were the focus of the entire audience.

“看，这是我们的‘高光时刻’。”16岁的马慧星点开手机相册里珍藏的照片：俄罗斯莫斯科国家大马戏剧院的领奖台上，她和队友们手捧鲜花与奖杯，青春的脸庞满是喜悦。聚光灯下，她们是全场瞩目的焦点。

Not only are they the youngest participants in the festival, but they are also the first batch of college-level acrobatics majors in Hunan, co-trained through the school-enterprise cooperation between the Hunan Acrobatic Art Theatre and Hunan Vocational College of Art.

她们不仅是赛事最年轻参赛者，更是湖南省杂技艺术剧院与湖南艺术职业学院校企合作培养的湖南首批杂技专业大专生。

Unlike their predecessors, the team members practice basic skills during the day and focus on academic courses at night. "We can not only showcase acrobatic 'stunts' but also understand art theory and grasp the cultural connotations behind our performances," said team member Shi Rongyi. This "comprehensive training" helps these young talents break out of the traditional single-track mold of acrobats, integrating literary theory, acrobatic skills and stage presence. It also makes it easier for them to seamlessly blend the thrills, daring, wonders and grace of Hunan contortion with the charm of traditional Chinese opera.

与前辈不同，队员们白天练基本功，晚上攻文化课。“我们不光能拿出杂技‘绝活’，还懂艺术理论，能吃透节目背后的文化内涵。”队员石镕仪说。这种“复合型培养”，让“春苗”跳出传统杂技演员的单一框架，将文艺理论、杂技技巧与舞台表现力融会贯通，也更易把湖南柔术“惊、险、奇、美”的特色，与中国戏曲的韵味无缝融合。

The 11 "leading actresses" have clear roles: Shi Rongyi, Liu Yuying and Li Sihan—with solid foundational skills—serve as the "base" responsible for supporting and lifting; Ma Huixing, Xiang Lijuan and Long Wenmin—light and agile—are the "top performers" specializing in aerial stunts; while Tang Ting, Xiong Dinghuan, Xiong Jiayi, Tao Jingya and Zhang Lingxuan—combining both skill and strength—act as the "backbone" of the entire performance.

11位“花旦”分工明确：核心扎实的石镕仪、刘钰盈、李思涵是负责承重托举的“底座”；身轻灵巧的马慧星、向丽娟、龙文敏是专攻空中技巧的“尖子”；技巧与力量兼备的唐婷、熊丁欢、熊嘉宜、陶井雅、张玲炫，则是串联全场的“中流砥柱”。

Every detail of their roles—from dance steps and postures to eye expressions and hand gestures—aligns closely with the aesthetics of traditional Chinese opera. The actCharm of Chinese Operatook three years to polish, from rehearsal to final performance. Behind every seemingly effortless leap, precise catch, and thrilling balance lies hundreds of hours of practice and coordination. The girls can’t remember how many times they’ve fallen or cried, but none of them have ever thought of giving up. "As soon as I think about standing on a bigger stage, I get my energy back," one of them said.

女孩们饰演的角色，大到舞步身段，小到眼神手势，都紧扣戏曲美学。从排练到最终呈现，《戏韵春苗》打磨了3年。每一个看似轻盈的腾跃、精准的抛接、惊险的平衡，背后都是成百上千次的磨合。女孩们记不清摔过多少回、哭过多少次，却没人想过放弃。“一想到能站上更高的舞台，就又有了劲头。”

In the end,Charm of Chinese Operaimpressed the organizers of the World Circus Art Festival "IDOL-2025", making the team the first acrobatic group from Hunan to be invited to compete.

最终，《戏韵春苗》打动了“偶像-2025”国际马戏艺术节的主办方，这支年轻队伍也成为首支获邀参赛的湖南杂技团队。

At Moscow State Circus, participating teams from 15 countries and regions worldwide presented thrilling acts like the Wheel of Death, Springboard and Flying Trapeze—leaving the girls, who were competing for the first time, amazed.

在莫斯科国家大马戏剧院，来自全球15个国家和地区的参赛队伍，带来了死亡之轮、大跳板、空中飞人等精彩节目，让首次参赛的女孩们大开眼界。

"The venue is small, so we squeeze in time to practice wherever there’s space; the food doesn’t suit our taste, so we eat less to keep our figures." On their first day in Moscow, Ma Huixing and her teammates dropped their luggage and dived straight into intense training.

“场地小，就见缝插针‘抢’时间练；饮食不习惯，就少吃点保持体态。”抵达莫斯科的第一天，马慧星和队友们放下行李，立刻投入紧张训练。

During the competition, the 11 Chinese girls took the stage in teal traditional opera costumes. As the rhythm picked up, they formed a six-layer stack in the shape of a"yuanbao" (traditional Chinese gold ingot)—when Ma Huixing, the "top performer" on the sixth layer, took a deep breath and held a split pose mid-air, the entire audience fell instantly silent, followed by thunderous applause. These 11 young talents, carrying the charm of traditional Chinese opera and the grace of Hunan contortion, won cheers from the world.

Zapashny, head of the Moscow State Circus, spoke highly of the act: "The Chinese entry is full of originality, and the artists’ performances are truly breathtaking."

谈及《戏韵春苗》，莫斯科大马戏团团长扎帕什内赞不绝口：“中国参赛节目创意十足，选手的表演令人惊叹。”

Winning the most recognized professional award in their first international competition is both an honor and a motivation for this post-2000s team. "We’re so proud that our performance was recognized and loved by foreign judges and audiences—all our previous efforts were worth it!"

首次征战国际赛事便拿下认可度最高的专业组奖项，对这支00后团队而言，是殊荣更是激励。“表演得到国外评委和观众的认可与喜爱，我们特别自豪，之前所有的努力都值了！”

At the awards dinner, a Mongolian acrobat told team member Tang Ting via a translation app: "Your six-layer 'yuanbao' stack and the Oriental charm in your performance are unforgettable." This recognition filled Tang Ting with both excitement and resolve: "I’ll practice even harder from now on to take Oriental acrobatics to more high-profile stages and make it loved by more people."

颁奖晚宴上，一位蒙古杂技演员用翻译软件告诉队员唐婷：“你们的六层‘元宝’和充满东方韵味的演绎，让人过目难忘。”这份认可让唐婷既激动又坚定：“今后要更刻苦练习，让东方杂技站上更高规格的舞台，被更多人喜欢。”

Culture Empowers Acrobatics: The New Generation Continues Its Global Journey

文化赋能杂技魂 新生代接力“出海”

Though they brought home the Bronze Idol trophy, their trip to Moscow is not the end—compared with top-tier international acrobatic teams, this young group still has room for growth.

尽管捧回了“铜偶像”奖杯，但莫斯科之行并非终点——与世界顶级杂技团队相比，这支年轻队伍仍有差距。

"Their artistic expressiveness and movement stability still need improvement," said Liu Xueyan, deputy director of the Trainee Training Department at the Hunan Acrobatic Art Theatre. Next, the theatre will add self-designed program courses to help the team shift from "performers" to "creators".

“她们的艺术表现力和动作稳定性还需提升。”湖南省杂技艺术剧院学员培训部副主任刘雪艳表示，接下来将增设节目自主设计课程，让队员们从“表演者”转型为“创作者”。

"Our next goal is the 'Golden Clown' Award!" No sooner had Shi Rongyi spoken than laughter echoed through the training studio. She could tell—the laughter carried unspoken encouragement from the teachers, and more importantly, a shared expectation that all her teammates understood without saying a word.

“我们下一步的目标，是‘金小丑’奖！”石镕仪的话刚说完，练功房里就响起一阵笑声。她听得真切，笑声里有老师们没说出口的鼓励，更有队友们心照不宣的共同期待。

Since its founding in 1959, the Hunan Acrobatic Art Theatre has performed worldwide and won numerous international awards: the "Silver Clown" from Monte Carlo, the "Golden Kashtan" (Ukrainian for "chestnut") from Ukraine, the Silver Award at the Australian Circus Festival... Netizens jokingly call it the "Top University of Acrobatics" (a reference to China’s prestigious "985 Project" universities).

Combining acrobatics with the profound Oriental culture and using "strength" and "beauty" to showcase the cultural confidence of the Chinese people is the key to the troupe’s global fame. Not long ago, the theatre’s original acrobatic dramaDream Journey: Mysterious Xiangxicompleted its 850th global tour performance in Madrid, Spain, winning overseas fans with an audio-visual feast full of Oriental charm.

将杂技与神秘的东方文化结合，用“力”与“美”展现中国人的文化自信，是杂技团蜚声海外的关键。不久前，剧院原创杂技剧《梦之旅——神秘湘西》在西班牙马德里完成第850场全球巡演，以极具东方魅力的视听盛宴“圈粉”海外。

"I’m really happy to see them making steady progress, especially as a senior," said Wang Dingding. "The 'Golden Clown' dream that the older generation didn’t fulfill might just come true with them."

“看着她们不断进步，作为前辈，我特别欣慰。”王定定说，“老一辈没实现的‘金小丑’梦，说不定能在她们身上成真。”
