This autumn, with the successive holding of events such as the "God List of Intelligent Driving" — the 2nd IVISTA (C-IAC) Hunan National Intelligent Driving Assistance Challenge, and the "AI + Intelligent Connected Vehicles" Special Forum of the 2025 Internet Yuelu Conference, Changsha, which has released the construction goals for its "vehicle-road-cloud integration" pilot scenarios, has become the focal point of the industry.

The intelligent connected vehicle (ICV) industry is a pillar strength of Changsha, and simulated overseas road testing constitutes a critical step in the global expansion of "smart vehicles". At Intelligent Connected Vehicle Testing Center (Hunan) of CAERI Co., Ltd., there is a post-2000s test engineer, He Zhang Ziyu, who embodies this effort. Just in Hong Kong and Thailand alone, he has logged more than 20,000 kilometers of road testing—roughly half the length of the equator. As a post-2000s "test specialist" in the ICV arena, he is driving the development of China’s intelligent connected vehicle industry forward with his practical actions.

00后爱车,职业发展看重个人志趣

At first hearing, the name He Zhang Ziyu—created by combining his parents’ surnames—immediately carries the stamp of China’s post-2000 generation.

何张子宇,这父母合姓的取名方式,有着鲜明的00后印记。

For test engineers, the passenger seat doubles as a workstation, with the oversized computer balanced directly on their laps for lack of space. Each time He Zhang Ziyu enters a test vehicle, he begins by adjusting the seat. With such a wide variety of cars to handle, he has no permanent “partner,” always engaging instead with new “friends.”

对测试工程师而言,副驾驶座就是他们的工位,笔记本电脑没地方放,就直接架在双腿上。何张子宇每次上车,都要先调节座椅——需要测试的车辆非常多,何张子宇并没有固定的“搭档”,他总在不停地和“新朋友”打交道。

He Zhang Ziyu’s passion for cars, like that of many boys, is ingrained in his DNA. For a car enthusiast like him, the frequent experience of test-driving new vehicles is undoubtedly a great delight. Once the conversation shifts to professional topics such as automobile manufacturers, brands and models, the seemingly mature-beyond-his-years young man instantly transforms into a charismatic raconteur, rattling off facts with effortless fluency.

何张子宇对汽车的钟爱,像很多男孩一样,是刻进基因的。对何张子宇这样的爱车之人来说,频频坐新车的体验无疑是件非常幸福的事。只要一聊起汽车企业、品牌、车型等专业话题,刚才还“少年老成”的他,就秒变 “脱口秀达人”,如数家珍,一口气说下来不带喘气的。

The development of China's automotive industry has profoundly transformed the travel habits of the Chinese people, the transportation planning of Chinese cities, and even the industrial structure of China's economy. The post-2000s generation, to which He Zhang Ziyu belongs, has personally witnessed the era when cars entered ordinary households and became a daily means of transportation.

中国汽车产业的发展,极大改变了中国人的出行方式、中国城市的交通规划,乃至中国经济的产业结构。何张子宇这一代00后,更是亲身经历了汽车驶入寻常百姓家、成为日常代步工具的时代变迁。

In 2016, Changsha took the lead in laying out the intelligent connected vehicle (ICV) industry. It built China’s largest closed testing ground for ICVs with the most comprehensive functions and richest intelligent scenarios, and launched the country’s first smart bus route. In July 2024, Changsha was selected as a pilot city for the "vehicle-road-cloud integration" application. This marked its fifth national-level qualification in the ICV sector, following four other national titles: the National Intelligent Connected Vehicle Testing Zone, the National Internet of Vehicles Pilot Zone, the National Quality Supervision and Inspection Center for Intelligent Connected Vehicles, and the Pilot City for the Coordinated Development of Smart City Infrastructure and Intelligent Connected Vehicles. As Changsha’s ICV industry booms, local universities have adapted to the trend by launching a new program inIntelligent Connected Vehicle Technology. A passionate car lover, He Zhang Ziyu resolutely applied for this major and successfully became a test engineer after graduation.

2016年,长沙率先布局智能网联汽车产业,建设国内面积最大、功能最完备、智能场景最丰富的智能网联汽车封闭测试场,开通国内首条智慧公交。2024年7月,长沙入选“车路云一体化”应用试点城市,继国家智能网联汽车测试区、国家级车联网先导区、国家智能网联汽车质量监督检验中心、智慧城市基础设施与智能网联汽车协同发展试点城市等四块国家级牌照后,获得第五块智能网联领域国家级牌照……随着长沙的智能网联汽车产业的快速发展,本地高校也因势利导地开设了“智能网联汽车技术”这一新专业,爱车的何张子宇毅然报考,并在毕业后顺利当上了测试工程师。

Post-2000s Test Cars: Digital Natives Embracing the Tech Wave

As more Chinese auto brands expand abroad with complete vehiclesexports, the demand for overseas testing by intelligent connected car companies has surged in parallel. Take Thailand as an example: traffic rules such as right-hand drive, trafficon the left, and special night speed-limit signs all require on-the-ground testing.

随着中国新能源车的加速“出海”,相关智能网联车企的海外测试需求也水涨船高。以泰国为例,右舵左行的行驶规则、夜间特殊限速标志等异于国内的交通场景,新能源车要在海外落地,就需要到当地进行实际测试。

In Thailand, very often new road signs are put up before the old ones are removed in time, which confuses the vehicle’s recognition system.

“在泰国,往往新的道路标识竖起来了,旧的还没来得及拆,车识别不出来。”

Lanes in Southeast Asian countries are generally narrow; many slow lanes are only three meters wide, which poses a major challenge for autonomous driving vehicles. The markings for parking spaces also differ significantly from those in China.

“东南亚国家普遍车道偏窄,很多慢车道只有3米,对智能驾驶汽车来说是一大考验,停车位的划线也跟国内有明显区别。”

He Zhang Ziyu is one of the second generation of test engineers going abroad—standing.His seniors documented every piece of information collected from overseas test drives in detail. The company then built aTypical Overseas Road Test Scenario Databaseby integrating this data with materials such as foreign traffic regulations, road signs, traffic scenarios, and the actual driving habits of overseas drivers and passengers.Vehicles undergo preliminary compliance testing for overseas market access regulations in Changsha. After debugging issues related to vehicle perception and other functions, they are sent abroad for further tests — a process that significantly reduces costs.

何张子宇属于出海的第二代测试工程师。他的前辈们将海外试驾实地采集的信息一一记录下来,公司再结合国外交通法规、道路标识、交通场景以及国外驾乘人员实际使用习惯等资料,构建了“典型海外路试场景数据库”。车辆在长沙完成海外国家准入法规认证的前期摸底测试,调试好车辆感知等问题后再出海测试,可以极大降低成本。

Among the 13 members of the overseas testing team, three are post-2000s. They travel to and from Japan, Thailand, the United Kingdom, Norway and other countries to conduct preliminary tests for intelligent connected vehicles (ICVs).Jiang Wei, deputy general manager of the Intelligent Connected Vehicle Testing Center (Hunan) of CAERI Co., Ltd. and director of the National Intelligent and Connected Vehicle Quality Inspection and Testing Center (Hunan), explained: “The core of intelligent connected vehicle testing lies in ‘intelligence’ and ‘connectivity.’ The post-2000 generation are true digital natives. Having grown up with smart devices, software systems, and online ecosystems, they are able to grasp and sense technology more quickly.”

在公司13人的海外测试团队中,00后就有3人。他们往来于日本、泰国、英国、挪威等多个国家,为智能网联汽车摸底测试。中汽院智能网联汽车检测中心(湖南)有限公司副总经理、国家智能网联汽车质量检验检测中心(湖南)主任姜维介绍:“智能网联汽车测试的核心是‘智能’和‘网联’,00后是真正的数字原住民。他们从小就和各类智能设备、软件系统、网络生态一起成长,能够更快地理解和感知技术。”

Indeed, He Zhang Ziyu spent nearly every evening overseas reflashing software—organizing the day’s data while also preparing for the next day’s tests. On his very first assignment abroad, he stayed just over four months, yet logged more than 20,000 kilometers of testing, carried out over 3,000 parking maneuvers, collected more than 1,000 scenarios, and identified some 5,000 issues. Such a workload would have been impossible without strong technical support.

的确,何张子宇在海外时,几乎每晚都会花大量时间刷写软件——既整理当天的数据,也为次日测试做准备。他首次出海仅待了4个多月,却完成了多项硬核成果:测试里程超20000公里、泊车3000余次、采集场景1000余例、发现问题5000余例。这样庞大的工作量,若没有强大的技术支撑,根本无法完成。

Companies also value the post-2000 generation for their stronger cross-border communication skills. Jiang Wei noted: “They can interact more smoothly with local engineers and suppliers, which greatly reduces barriers to collaboration.”

00后普遍更强的对外交流能力,也是企业青睐他们的重要原因。姜维透露:“00后能更流畅地与当地工程师、供应商沟通,大幅减少了协作障碍。”

In Thailand, He Zhang Ziyu did not even need to learn Thai,his fluent English was enough for both work and daily life. “The local drivers I worked with spoke English with a heavy accentandan alveolar trill that was hard to understand. I would keep asking them to repeat, or look things up online,” he said.

在泰国,何张子宇甚至都不用专门学习泰语,仅凭流利的英语就能满足工作、生活的各项所需,“和我同车的当地驾驶员,英语口音还比较重,带弹舌音,不容易听懂。遇到这种情况,我会反复询问,或者上网查询。”

As the heated discussions on the integration of AI and the intelligent connected vehicle industry at the Internet Yuelu Summit 2025 continue to resonate, He Zhang Ziyu’s trip to Brazil on October 26 has been scheduled. Jiang Wei said: “We eagerly look forward to versatile talents who combine solid technical expertise with innovative thinking, working with us to strengthen the safety foundation of intelligent connected vehicles and lead the industry toward high-quality development.”

2025互联网岳麓大会上关于AI与智能网联汽车产业融合发展的热烈讨论还在回响,何张子宇10月26日的巴西之旅已被提上日程。“我们热切期盼兼具深厚技术功底与创新思维的复合型人才,与我们一起筑牢智能网联汽车的安全基石,引领行业高质量发展。”姜维说。
